Reserves mown down by Church Lawford in Massey Ferguson Cup (11.12.10)
Massey Ferguson Cup – 1st Round
Bourton & Frankton Reserves 3 Church Lawford Reserves 9
There was a glut of goals at The Field as bottom met top in a local derby for the opening round of the Division 5 internal cup.
Unfortunately for the hosts, the visitors and league leaders had a comfortable passage as the scoreline suggests. The damage was primarily done in the opening 25 minutes as Church Lawford raced into a five-goal lead. Tony Jessop pulled one back, however, for Bourton six minutes before the break, completing a neat passing move to slot home.
That joy was short lived after half time as the visitors continued how they started the first period, taking advantage of the home side’s inability to maintain any meaningful possession and inviting Church Lawford to attack at will. That they did, adding a further four goals which would have easily been doubled if it were not for more clinical close range finishing and desperate defending.
Ironically though, Bourton had the last word in an otherwise one-sided encounter. Rich Parsons took advantage of a poor goalkeeping clearance to slot home Bourton’s second, before Chris Shorey again embarrassed the visitor’s keeper, chipping him Beckham-esque style from fully 60 yards having seen him venture off his line.
