Lights go out at Alveston with Vase clash in the balance (21.11.09)
Birmingham Vase - 2nd Round
Alveston 1 Bourton & Frankton 1
(match abandoned after 64 minutes - floodlight failure)
An evenly balanced Birmingham Vase encounter in South Warwickshire was brought to a premature end meaning both sides will have to cross swords again for a place in the last eight.
Having weathered the initial storm from the home side, Bourton settled and came into the tie more. However just when play was balanced, the visitors were to be undone by a quick counter-attack from a long clearance which saw Alveston go in front on 22 minutes. However the visitors fought back and by half-time were level. Danny McManus crossed to find in-form Rob Crinigan who headed home a tidy equaliser.
Bourton began the second period the better of the two sides and appeared to be in the ascedency, but the floodlights went out on proceedings and tie was brought to an abrupt halt on 64 minutes with the contest finely poised.
