Coventry Benevolent Cup - 1st Round

Bourton & Frankton Reserves 0 Massey Ferguson 5

No such joy for Bourton Reserves as their Massey Ferguson counterparts gained revenge from last week's Bedworth Nursing Cup exit at the hands of B & F's 1st XI to dump Tom Ansell and Co. from the Coventry Benevolent Cup.

With a severely depleted side to content with after 9 players from the previous week’s squad were unavailable, advice to keep it tight at the start were not take in Bourton found themsleves 1-0 down after 15 seconds of the match without touching the ball. Chris Shorey had a great opportunity to equalise, hammering a shot off the underside of the crossbar, however Massey’s continued to probe and scored a second before half time.

The visitor's third came in the second half and was controversial to say the least. B & F 'keeper Rich Parsons went up to collect the ball and was barged into his own goal by the Massey’s forward; the referee allowing the goal to stand much to the annoyance of the Bourton faithful.

Nevertheless the hosts pushed forward and had a couple of glorious chances to get back into the game, with Stu Hall spurning a chance one on one and Dale Bachelor somehow missing from two yards out.     As Bourton pushed forward, Massey’s exploited the space and scored a couple of late goals to rub salt into the wounds.

Just before the final whistle, a Massey's penalty was brilliantly saved by Parsons, who despite the goals against column, had an excellent game in the Bourton goal.
