Reserves wiped aside in opener by Wolston (29.8.09)

Division 5

Wolston 5 Bourton & Frankton Reserves 1

Bourton Reserves kicked off their season with a tough fixture away at Wolston, a number of new signings meant that the side that took the field was very much different from the one that finished the back end of last season.

Dave Eyles was placed in caretaker management of the team for the match, to cover for Tom Ansell and the game started badly for Eyles & Co as Bourton found themselves 3-0 down after only 10 minutes. A series of defensive lapses saw Bourton made to pay the price for giving the ball away cheaply and were deservedly punished with some well taken goals.

Some adjustments to the team stemmed the initial flow, and Bourton grew into the game and reached half-time with no further damage.

The second half, started brightly and both sides had opportunites. B & F's Chris Shorey going close with an attempt, beating his man before firing wide, but it was Wolston who added to the scoring with a similar goal to those conceded in the first half, a quick through ball over the top of the defence and the striker finished with aplomb.

Shorey did eventually get on the scoresheet with a well taken header from a set piece, but the afternoon proved to be a steep learning curve for Bourton, against a well organised Wolston team.

Despite the scoreline, there were some promising performances most notably Leigh Forrest making his debut up front, and the injured Craig Collingwood in goal making some fine stops.
